Aleksandr Rou is widely remembered as the “Soviet Walt Disney,” a filmmaker whose fairy-tale movies became cultural touchstones across the Eastern Bloc. Specializing in magical adventures drawn from Russian folklore, Rou crafted films filled with enchanted forests, witches and heroes.
